Copilot Cowork + Dynamics 365 Finance: From Spreadsheet to Purchase Order in Minutes

What happens when you give Microsoft Copilot Cowork direct access to Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations? In this walkthrough I connect Cowork to a D365 F&O environment via the Dynamics 365 ERP MCP server and hand it two real tasks; no custom code, no Power Automate flows.
First, it reads a supplier list from a spreadsheet and creates the vendors in F&O. Then it checks an item’s stock against its minimum, reasons about where the shortfall actually is, and raises a purchase order to the default vendor, pausing for my approval before every write.
The part that stood out: the agent didn’t just follow orders. It spotted that stock existed elsewhere in the company and suggested a transfer instead of a purchase, flagged a questionable vendor, and surfaced stale open orders, the kind of judgement you’d want from an analyst, not a macro.
This is agentic AI doing actual work inside the ERP, with a governance checkpoint on every action and F&O’s own workflows still in force.
⚠️ The Dynamics 365 ERP plugin for Copilot Cowork is in preview at the time of recording. All data shown is Microsoft’s Contoso demo data, no real suppliers, orders or postings.
